Match the lining to the service file

Tank lining specification starts with the contents and the temperature, not the substrate. A potable-water tank, an immersed seawater clarifier, and a hydrochloric-acid scrubber sump need three different chemistries even when the underlying steel and bund design look identical. General immersion service

Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade) is a high-strength, two-part epoxy coating designed for tanks, pipework, clarifiers, and water boxes in long-term immersion. Apply over manually or grit-prepared steel; cures cold; supplies the baseline corrosion barrier for most water and mild-chemical service. Belzona 5811DW2 is the WRAS-listed potable-water variant for drinking-water tanks and contact surfaces; verify the local regulatory listing for your jurisdiction before specifying.

Splash zone and intermittent immersion

Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) is the splash-zone and surface-tolerant member of the family. It cures on damp, oil-contaminated, and underwater steel, which makes it the practical choice for tide-line areas, riser splash zones, and sumps that cannot be fully dried before the work.

Aggressive chemical service

Belzona 4311 (Magma CR1) and Belzona 4341 (Magma CR4) are high-temperature, chemically resistant linings rated for acid, alkali, and solvent service well above the temperature ceiling of standard epoxy. Specify these systems for primary containment of strong acids, dilute alkali, and high-temperature process water that would otherwise blister a 5811-class lining.

Concrete bund and floor repair

Concrete bunds typically combine a concrete repair compound (Belzona 4111, 4131) for crack and spall remediation with a chemical-resistant topcoat (4311, 4341) to seal the surface. The concrete-friendly chemistry tolerates the alkalinity and moisture of fresh substrate that would defeat steel-only systems.

Inspection and recoat strategy
