Frequently Asked Questions
What surfaces is Belzona 5111 (Ceramic Cladding) designed for?
Belzona 5111 is designed for the protection of metallic and masonry surfaces, including all structural steelwork, walls, floors, pipes, external tank surfaces, cooling towers, and bridges. Pre-treatment varies by substrate: ferrous surfaces require two coats of Belzona 6111 (Liquid Anode), while cementitious and non-ferrous metallic surfaces require one coat of Belzona 5911 (Ceramic Conditioner) prior to topcoating.
How is Belzona 5111 applied?
Belzona 5111 is applied by brush or spray after appropriate substrate pre-treatment. The mixed material has a usable life of 8 hours at 77°F (25°C). For ferrous surfaces, two coats of Belzona 5111 are applied at a wet film thickness of 70 microns (2¾ mils) per coat over the Belzona 6111 primer. For non-ferrous surfaces, one coat of Belzona 5111 is applied over the Belzona 5911 conditioner. Application should not be carried out below 41°F (5°C) or above 104°F (40°C).
What chemicals does Belzona 5111 resist?
Belzona 5111 has excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals including alcohols, alkalis, salts, oils, hydrocarbons, fertilizers, acids and oxidising agents. It also offers excellent bacterial resistance and is USDA compliant for incidental food contact and meets FDA 21 CFR 175.300 extraction requirements for water in Condition of Use E. Although not recommended for total immersion applications, it is suitable for splashing and spillage situations up to 140°F (60°C) wet. Refer to the relevant Chemical Resistance Chart for specific data.
