The repair window for piping systems

On a refinery turnaround, the time available for valve and flange work is measured in hours, not days. Outside a turnaround, the system is usually live. Both cases reward repair systems that cure cold, do not need hot work permits, and can be applied by the same crew already onsite.

Belzona product families used on piping assets

Flange face rebuilding

Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) is the standard composite for reforming corroded raised-face flanges and rebuilding bolt holes. Used with the Belzona Flange Face Forming Kit, it returns out-of-spec flanges to gasket-bearing geometry on a single shift. Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal) is selected when the flange will see elevated temperature or wet service after assembly.

Live leak sealing

Belzona 9611 (ES-Metal) is a fast-cure epoxy that stops live water leaks within minutes of mixing. The Belzona 1212 Leak Sealing Kit packages a surface-tolerant epoxy designed for wet, oil-contaminated, or underwater substrates: typical use cases include leaking drain plugs, sweating elbows, and damp lagging penetrations. Once the leak is stopped, a longer-cure repair (1111, 1311, or a wrap) replaces the temporary seal.

Pipe wrap and structural reinforcement

Belzona SuperWrap II is a composite repair system qualified to ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 for metallic pipework with external corrosion or mechanical damage. A SuperWrap II repair restores structural integrity around the defect without taking the line out of service or cutting steel. For external pipework that mainly needs corrosion protection rather than structural reinforcement, Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade) provides a chemically resistant immersion-rated coating; Belzona 5811DW2 is the WRAS-listed variant for potable water duty.

Valve restoration

Worn valve bodies, eroded plug-and-cage trim seats, and corroded flange ends are typical valve repair scopes. The same Belzona 1111 / 1311 family handles body-side metal loss; a topcoat of Belzona 1321 or 1391T extends service life in immersion duty. For valves that arrive at the shop with seized fasteners or deformed bolt holes, the Flange Face Forming Kit rebuilds the bolt-bearing surface so the valve can be reinstalled with a standard gasket.

Selecting against the operating spec

Belzona Baton Rouge picks the system against pipe service file: medium, temperature, pressure, presence of free water, and whether the line stays in service during the work. A typical scope on a chemical-plant turnaround mixes 1111-rebuilt flange faces with SuperWrap II reinforcement on adjacent corroded pipework, sealed with 5811 on the external surfaces.
