What tends to go wrong
  • External wall loss from atmospheric corrosion on bare or coating-failed pipework.
  • Corrosion under insulation (CUI) on insulated lines operating in the 50–175°C (120–350°F) wet-corrosion band.
  • Mechanical damage: dents, gouges, and impact pits from third-party events.
  • Internal erosion at elbows, tees, and reducers in particulate or two-phase flow.
  • Live leaks at pinholes, weld defects, or threaded joints.
  • Coating disbondment over decades-old field-applied tape or wrap.
How Belzona helps

Choose by defect class, not by pipe type

The right repair on a pipeline depends on whether the defect is a corrosion thinning, a mechanical gouge, an active leak, or a coating failure. Belzona systems are scoped against the defect class first.

Belzona product families used on pipelines

Composite wrap reinforcement

Belzona SuperWrap II is qualified to ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 for restoring or maintaining the structural integrity of metallic pipework with external corrosion, mechanical damage, and through-wall defects. The wrap is engineered to a defect-specific design: defect dimensions, pipe geometry, operating pressure, and design life are inputs, and the wrap layer count and length are outputs. The system is cold-cure and applied in service.

Long-term external coating

Belzona 5811 (Immersion Grade) is the standard external coating where the duty calls for long-term corrosion protection rather than structural reinforcement. It is two-component, 100% solids, and rated for buried, submerged, and atmospheric service. Belzona 5811DW2 is the WRAS-listed potable-water variant for potable-water mains.

Live-leak and surface-tolerant repair

Belzona 1212 is the surface-tolerant epoxy composite for damp, oil-contaminated, or underwater pipe surfaces. Field uses include pinhole sealing on wet pipework, patch repairs at flange penetrations, and underwater riser repair. Belzona 9611 (ES-Metal) is the fast-cure product for stopping a live water leak inside a few minutes of mixing.

CUI program work

For corrosion under insulation, the typical Belzona scope is: strip insulation, abrasive-blast or hand-prepare per IFU, rebuild metal loss with Belzona 1111 / 1311, topcoat with 5811 (or with a CUI-rated system in the appropriate temperature class), reinstall insulation. The scope can be staged so adjacent pipework stays in service.

Documentation and integrity records

Each repair is documented to the pipeline's integrity-management standard: defect dimensions, design pressure, design temperature, wrap calculation reference (for SuperWrap II), product PSS / IFU / SDS. Belzona Baton Rouge files the package with the operator so the next integrity dig sees the same record the design rests on.
