Why off-the-shelf shims and gaskets do not always fit

Equipment that has been in service for years rarely sits on its original mounting plane. Foundations settle, machinery feet warp, and flange faces no longer present the original sealing geometry. The fix is a custom-formed shim or seal that takes the shape of the actual surface, not a generic part trimmed to approximate fit.

Belzona product families used on gaskets, seals, and shims

Form-in-place gasketing

Belzona 1111 (Super Metal) used with the Belzona Flange Face Forming Kit reforms a corroded, eroded, or heat-distorted flange face to gasket-seating geometry. The reformed face accepts a standard gasket on reassembly, which removes the alternative of expensive flange machining.

Custom shim casting

Belzona 7111, Belzona 7121, and the rest of the 7000-series chock-and-shim materials cast against the actual mating surface to produce a load-bearing shim at the exact thickness needed. Used for machinery foot chocking, crane-rail leveling, and equipment soft-foot correction.

Static-seal repair

Belzona 1212 (surface-tolerant) is the call where the sealing surface is wet, oil-contaminated, or otherwise not cleanable to bare metal. The repair seals against the actual substrate condition and accepts a topcoat for long-term service.

Approval discipline on potable and food-contact use

Approvals (NSF, FDA, USDA, WRAS) attach to specific Belzona product codes, not to the brand. Belzona Baton Rouge confirms the active listing for the actual product and revision against the duty (potable water, food contact, dairy, brewery) before specifying.
