Storage Tank Floor Reclamation
Corroded aboveground tank floor rebuilt and lined back to immersion service without cutting out plate.

The challenge
An aboveground storage tank floor corrodes from both the underside and the topside. Pitting and metal loss spread across the plates and the weld seams, thinning the steel that holds the stored product. Left untreated, the floor risks a release and forces the tank out of service. The owner needed the floor back in service without cutting out and replacing plate, and without losing the turnaround window.
Our approach
We start by grit-blasting the floor to clean, profiled steel so the repair bonds. We rebuild the pitted and thinned areas and the weld seams with a cold-applied composite, restoring profile to the plates. Then we apply a full-floor immersion-grade lining keyed to the stored product, sealing the steel and the rebuilt areas under one continuous barrier. We work the floor in stages so the crew stays productive on the turnaround clock.
- Assess and mapWe inspect the floor to locate pitting, metal loss, and seam damage, and confirm the stored product so the lining is keyed correctly.
- Grit-blast prepWe grit-blast the full floor to a clean, profiled surface so both the composite and the lining bond to bare steel.
- Rebuild pitting and seamsWe rebuild pitted areas, thinned plate, and weld seams with a cold-applied composite, with no hot work and no plate replacement.
- Apply immersion liningWe apply a full-floor immersion-grade lining over the steel and rebuilt areas as one continuous barrier.
- Inspect and return to serviceWe check the lining and turn the floor back over to the owner within the turnaround window.
The result
- Floor returned to service without cutting out or replacing plate
- Pitting, metal loss, and weld seams rebuilt in place with no hot work
- Full-floor immersion lining keyed to the stored product, applied as one continuous barrier
- Work completed on the turnaround clock by factory-trained and factory-certified Belzona applicators
